Jesus’ Body

The order of the Passover meal (review)

Let’s review the order of the Passover meal. (1) The first cup (Cup of Thanksgiving) was served. (2) Next, Jesus took the form of a servant and washed the disciples’ feet. (3) After that, the second cup (Cup of Judgment) was served. Although this cup is not mentioned in the Gospels, it can be assumed from the customs of that time. (4) Next, they ate parsley dipped in saltwater. It was at that moment, Jesus predicted Judas’ betrayal. (5) Then, unleavened bread was distributed. Today, we will learn the details of unleavened bread.

The meaning of unleavened bread

In the Passover meal, there was a ritual known as the “Afikomen.” A linen bag was prepared on the table. Inside the bad was divided into three compartments. Each compartment held a flat, unleavened bread, totaling three breads. This symbolizes the triune God. With that in mind, the middle bread naturally represented the Son of God. This bread was broken in half, and only one half was eaten, while the remaining half was wrapped in cloth and hidden somewhere in the house. Then, the main course is served. After the meal, the remaining half of the bread was brought out, unwrapped from the cloth, and eaten. The “Afikomen ritual” was divided between the main course, symbolizing Jesus’ crucifixion in the first half and His resurrection in the second half. Jesus said, “Take it; this is My body” referring to the broken half of the unleavened bread. (1) This was an unleavened bread commemorating the events of the Exodus. (2) It symbolized that Jesus was without sin. (3) Through this bread, Jesus established a new covenant with us. Those who partake of this bread (believing and accepting Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross) are promised redemption from sin. Have you partaken of this bread (believed in Jesus who was crucified) and been set free from Satan and from sin? If you are unsure, let’s pray now that you believe. Such a prayer is like signing the covenant.

Today's prayer

Father God of Jesus Christ, Jesus the Son of God was beaten and nailed for my sins. By His wounds, I am healed. Today, I believe in the Lord Jesus. Thank you for the forgiveness of my sins. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
