Preaching the kingdom of God

“Now Paul stayed two full years in his own rented lodging and welcomed all who came to him, preaching the kingdom of God and teaching things about the Lord Jesus Christ with all openness, unhindered.” (1) It seems that Paul’s innocence was publicly recognized by the Roman authorities. For two full years, he lived in a rented house at his own expense and was able to live comfortably. (2) Paul was able to preach to the Gentiles in Rome for two years. (a) He spoke boldly. (b) There was no hindrance from the Roman authorities. (c) He proclaimed the Kingdom of God. (d) He taught that Jesus is the promised Messiah.

The conclusion of the Acts

Acts 28:30-31 is the final of the seven church growth reports recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. For reference, here are the seven church growth reports: (1) Acts 2:47, (2) Acts 6:7, (3) Acts 9:31, (4) Acts 12:24, (5) Acts 16:5, (6) Acts 19:20, (7) Acts 28:30-31. The kingdom of God that Paul proclaimed refers to the Messianic Kingdom (Millennial Kingdom). (1) Paul believed that the literal Millennial Kingdom would be fulfilled on earth. (2) The Millennial Kingdom is a literal kingdom and represents the Hebrew hope. (3) Paul was imprisoned because of this hope.

Continuing work of Christ

The ending of the Acts of the Apostles signifies that the work of building the Church continues. The construction of the universal Church is the work of Christ. For this purpose, Christ uses people: (1) the apostles, (2) ordinary disciples, (3) Peter (the focus of the first half of Acts) (4) Paul (the focus of the second half of Acts). Paul’s life teaches us how much a person fully committed can accomplish. Let us also walk the path of devotion as servants of Christ.

Today's prayer

Heavenly Father, I praise Your name for the wonder of Your plan. Please use me for the building of the universal Church. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
