Ruth 3:14-18

14 So she lay at his feet until morning, and got up before one person could recognize another; and he said, “Do not let it be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.”

15 Again he said, “Give me the shawl that is on you and hold it.” So she held it, and he measured six measures of barley and laid it on her. Then she went into the city.

16 When she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “How did it go, my daughter?” And she told her all that the man had done for her.

17 She also said, “These six measures of barley he gave to me, for he said, ‘Do not go to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’”

18 Then she said, “Wait, my daughter, until you know how the matter turns out; for the man will not rest until he has settled it today.”

Ruth’s Report to Naomi

Faith to entrust

Are you a person who can “wait,” or do you tend to act without waiting? Waiting is an essential element of faith. (1) Boaz is a considerate and wise man. Fearing any undue rumors, he sends Ruth away before dawn, in the dark hours. (2) He also gives her six measures of barley to take back as a gift to her mother-in-law, Naomi. (3) Moreover, he takes immediate action and goes into the city. Ruth did all that she was told and returned to report to Naomi. Naomi then advised Ruth, saying, “Wait, my daughter, until you know how the matter turns out; for the man will not rest until he has settled it today.” All Ruth could do was to sit and wait.

Boaz taking action

Just as Naomi had said, “The man (Boaz) will not rest until he has settled it today,” Boaz took action right away in order to redeem Ruth and her land. This Boaz was a beloved and trustworthy figure to Ruth. Our “Boaz” is Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus came to earth as the one who had the right to redeem our lives. He completed the work of redemption by paying the price on the cross. Just as it is said in 1 Timothy 2:6 that Jesus Christ “gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.” In life, there are many things beyond our control, no matter how hard we try. Let’s learn that once we are done with our parts, we must entrust ourselves to the Lord Jesus. If we, too, could have the waiting faith of Ruth, our souls will be filled with peace. “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10 ASV).

Today's prayer

Father God of Jesus Christ, just as Ruth trusted Boaz, we place our trust in the Lord Jesus. Please do what is best at the best time. I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
